Originally by: Lex Striker I usually have EvE Mon running in the background on my backup computer, and I see how often EvE Online goes down, which can be once or twice a day... which concerns me.
Could it just be that something on your end interrupts Evemon connecting to the server, since whenever the servers go down for anything but the scheduled downtime we do hear about it on the forums ?
Quote: To give me reasons, but lame excuses, as to why downtimes happens... well, I think that is placing one's head in the sand and ignoring the elephant in the room.
Did you even read the reasons ? Do you have any suggestions as to how to reduce the downtimes ?
Quote: The main reason I have mentioned Guild Wars is that based on my observations, those game developers have learned. They rarely if ever have downtimes.
Actually the Guild Wars servers have scheduled downtimes regularly. But because of the instancing, ANET can easily get everyone off a server so it can be shut down without people noticing. An option that isn't available to any game with a persistent world.
Quote: At most, perhaps the player needs to reload the game when a client change occurs. They have survived even though they have no subscription fees. Rather than hand out endless expansions based on outdated designs, they are developing GW2.
The main defining features of GW1 were: - The lack of grind to reach max stats, which is being removed for GW2. Instead they are planning to copy a 'sidekicking' system from city of heroes to boost the stats of your friends so they can still be useful after you have doubled their level.
From here Quote: How will character progression work? Will you be raising the level cap? Guild Wars 2 will have the kind of extensive character advancement appropriate to a persistent world RPG. It is our priority to avoid forcing players into the grind-based gameplay that too often accompanies a high level cap.
Also, to allow players the freedom to play together even if their friends are at a much higher (or lower) level, we are planning to implement a strong sidekicking system, similar to that used in City of Heroes.
- The fact that you always had to consider your place in the team, even if that team was just you and NPC's. There wasn't much that could be soloed. So you always had to think about teamwork (or just copy someone who thought about it). For GW2, most of it is designed for soloing.
Quote: Will Guild Wars 2 be solo-able? Yes. You will be able to advance your character to the maximum level without ever joining a group if you so desire. Most content will be designed in a solo-friendly way
So I ask you, what gameplay features will GW2 have to define it as different to other MMOs ?
Quote: I am really looking forward to what they will come up with. I use them as an example as a company, I believe, that is thinking ahead.
So they are looking ahead by copying ideas from other MMOs, even when those ideas destroy what made GW1 unique in the first place ?
